I am always on the lookout for the next fun group training class to try. So when I heard Nike had started weekly ‘Nike Training Club’ (NTC) classes, I jumped at the chance to attend. With speciality group training classes popping up all over the place, it’s often your budget that decides which ones you give a try or not, as many of them come at a premium. Add to that a monthly gym membership and you’d be forgiven for not even bothering to try new classes.

First positive thing I loved already about the NTC classes (before I even attended) was the fact that they are FREE! All you need to do is go to the Nike website (nike.com/joburg) and book your spot. The class is held at a different location in Johannesburg every Saturday morning at 8:04am.
The classes are never quite the same and could vary from circuit training, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and can also incorporate partner training exercises which can be fun too. All the equipment is provided, all YOU need to bring is yourself in your gym wear (they do provide Nike trial sneakers for the session if you need a pair), a towel and a ‘can-do’ attitude. They even provide iced water pouches to quench your thirst (free of charge).

The trainers are really motivating, knowledgeable and pictures of fit physiques, which I think is important, in order to motivate a group of people. While classes are mainly attended by women, it is not exclusively for women, with guys attending too. All fitness levels are catered for, so if you’re new to exercise – this is a good way to get started.

You don’t have to attend these classes to get the NTC experience – these classes are but an extension of the NTC app. It is available for download to all smart phones and you’ll have access to a whole library of workouts by Nike trainers from around the world. These you can also select based on what your fitness goals are and your fitness level. It’s great that this service is all free (aside from your data costs of course for downloading the workout), as there are so many fitness apps out there that have a monthly subscription attached to it.

So if you’re in the Johannesburg area – get yourself to those Saturday morning NTC classes, and if you can’t, download the NTC app – there really is no excuse to stay steadfast to your New Year’s resolution with these helpful tools!
